Displaying Albums and Categories
Once you build a gallery hierarchy in Robo Gallery, albums and categories can be displayed in different ways depending on the gallery version you use.
The display style is different in:
- Classic Grid (Version 3)
- Fusion Gallery (Version 5)
Both approaches use the same hierarchy structure, but the front-end presentation is different.
How Albums and Categories Work
In Robo Gallery, albums and categories are based on the same idea:
- a parent gallery acts as an album or category
- child galleries belong to that parent gallery
So the way they are displayed depends on the gallery type and navigation settings.
Classic Grid – Categories as Menu Navigation
In Classic Grid, categories are usually displayed as a menu above the thumbnails.
To do this:
- Build your hierarchy in Album Hierarchy
- Enable Menu
- Use category-based navigation
When the hierarchy is configured, the front-end displays category buttons above the gallery.
This works well for:
- portfolios
- product galleries
- travel galleries
- project collections
Classic Grid Menu Options
In Classic Grid, the category display can be customized through Menu Options.
You can configure:
- menu visibility
- root label text
- alignment
- style
- colors
- spacing
This allows you to style the category navigation so it matches your site design.
Fusion Gallery – Albums as Folder-Based Navigation
In Fusion Gallery, categories are displayed more visually.
Instead of a top filter menu, child galleries appear as albums directly inside the gallery, often with:
- folder icons
- album cover thumbnails
- title overlay
- visual browsing experience
This approach feels more like a modern media browser or portfolio system.
Album Display in Fusion
Fusion albums can include:
- album cover image
- album icon
- album icon color
- breadcrumb navigation
These options are configured inside the ALBUM tab.
This makes it easier to build:
- nested portfolios
- travel albums
- photography collections
- client galleries
Breadcrumbs in Fusion
Fusion Gallery can also display breadcrumbs.
Breadcrumbs help visitors understand where they are inside the gallery hierarchy and return to parent galleries easily.
They are especially useful when you have:
- multiple album levels
- large category trees
- structured content collections
Breadcrumbs are configured inside the Navigation tab.
Difference Between Categories and Albums on Front-End
Although both are created with the same hierarchy system, they can appear differently:
| Mode | Display Style |
|---|---|
| Classic Grid | Top menu above thumbnails |
| Fusion Gallery | Folder-style albums inside gallery |
| Fusion Gallery with breadcrumbs | Album navigation + hierarchy trail |
Choosing the Best Display Method
Use Classic Grid if you want:
- simple category buttons
- filter-like navigation
- lightweight category menu
- traditional gallery structure
Use Fusion Gallery if you want:
- modern album browsing
- folder-like gallery navigation
- breadcrumbs
- visual hierarchy
- more advanced UX
Best Practice
For small or medium galleries, Classic category menus are often enough.
For larger websites or multi-level portfolios, Fusion albums provide a better and more intuitive navigation experience.
Recommended structure:
Portfolio
├ Branding
├ Web Design
├ Photography
│ ├ Weddings
│ ├ Portraits
│ └ Travel
└ MotionClassic Grid will show this mostly as menu-based navigation. Fusion will present this more like a visual album system.
Summary
Robo Gallery can display albums and categories in two main ways:
- Classic Grid → categories as a top navigation menu
- Fusion Gallery → albums as folder-style items with breadcrumb support
Both use the same gallery hierarchy, but the front-end experience is different.
Choose the display mode that best matches your content structure and the browsing experience you want to create.
