Changing Gallery Type
Robo Gallery allows you to change the gallery type at any time without recreating the gallery from scratch. This makes it easy to experiment with different layouts, switch between classic and modern views, or upgrade an existing gallery to a more advanced layout.
Changing the gallery type does not delete your images. All uploaded images, captions, tags, and settings remain attached to the gallery.
How to Change a Gallery Type
To change the gallery type, open any existing gallery in the WordPress admin panel.
- Go to Robo Gallery → Manage Galleries
- Click Edit on the gallery you want to modify
- Locate the Current Gallery Type section at the top of the editor
- Click the Change gallery type button
After clicking the button, a dialog window will appear with available gallery types.

In the gallery type selection dialog, you can choose from:

What Happens After Changing the Gallery Type
When you change the gallery type:
- All images remain in the gallery
- Image order is preserved
- Image metadata (title, caption, description, tags, links, video links) stays intact
- You gain access to layout-specific settings of the selected gallery type
Some settings may differ between gallery types. After switching, it is recommended to review the gallery options and adjust them if needed.
When to Change Gallery Type
Changing the gallery type is useful when:
- You want to switch from the classic Grid (v3) to Fusion Grid (v5)
- You want to test different layouts without re-uploading images
- You want to upgrade to a PRO layout
- You need a different visual presentation for the same image set
This flexibility allows you to evolve your gallery design as your website grows.
Best Practice
For modern websites and maximum responsiveness, we recommend using Fusion Grid (V5). It uses newer layout logic, advanced automation, and is optimized for:
- Mobile devices
- Tablets
- Large desktop screens
- Ultra-wide and high-resolution displays (Retina / Ultra HD / up to 16K)
Changing gallery types is safe, fast, and fully reversible — feel free to experiment and find the perfect layout for your content.
