Tags Menu

The Tags Menu in Classic Robo Gallery allows you to filter gallery images by custom tags instead of categories. This is especially useful when images belong to multiple logical groups (e.g., colors, themes, features, or topics).

Unlike categories (which follow a hierarchy), tags are flexible and non-hierarchical, making them ideal for dynamic filtering.

Switching Menu Mode to Tags

By default, the gallery menu may be configured to display Categories. To enable tag-based filtering:

  1. Open your Classic Gallery.
  2. Go to the Menu Options section.
  3. Enable Menu.
  4. Change Menu Mode from Categories to Tags.

Once enabled, the menu above the thumbnails will display tag-based filters instead of categories.

Assigning Tags to Images

Tags are assigned individually to each image inside the gallery.

To add tags:

  1. Open your gallery.
  2. Click on an image to open the Media Manager panel.
  3. Locate the Tags field.
  4. Enter one or multiple tags (separated by commas).
  5. Save the gallery.

Tags in Media Manager

Each image can have multiple tags. This allows it to appear in several filtered views.

Tags Ordering

Inside Menu Options, you can control how tags are displayed.

Available ordering options:

  • No ordering
  • Alphabetical (asc)
  • Alphabetical (desc)

This helps you control how filters are presented to users.

How the Tags Menu Works on Frontend

After configuration:

  • The Tags Menu appears above gallery thumbnails.
  • Clicking a tag instantly filters images.
  • Images without a matching tag are hidden.
  • The All button resets the filter.

This creates a dynamic and interactive browsing experience.

When to Use Tags Instead of Categories

Use Tags when:

  • Images belong to multiple groups.
  • You need flexible filtering.
  • You don’t want a strict hierarchical structure.
  • You want a modern “filter-by-attribute” interface.

Use Categories when:

  • You need a clear parent → child hierarchy.
  • You build structured album navigation.

Best Practice

For complex galleries, combine:

  • Categories for structure.
  • Tags for filtering inside categories.

This gives you both navigation hierarchy and flexible filtering.

The Tags Menu is a powerful way to improve usability and help visitors quickly find relevant images within your gallery.
